HOW YOUNG IS "TO YOUNG"
TO HAVE A WAX OR TAN OR ANY BEAUTY TREATMENTS?
In England Wales and Northern Ireland, a minor is anyone under the age of 18.
And in Scotland a minor is a person under the age of 16.
I have an Enforced policy within my salon. If the client is under 18 for insurance reasons and safety reasons, I have to obtain written permission from a parent or guardian advising me that the treatment is ok to go ahead with. this letter will remain in my records. In the client's folder.
Any children under the age of 16 CANNOT get waxed or spray tanned unless accompanied by their parent/guardian/adult.
I will not wax any child that younger than 16 years old 'unless it's absolutely necessary.
Again, an adult has to be present. Same with spray tanning or any of my treatments.
Teeth Whitening is a strict 18 and Over
It's all about Common Sense:
I am a business woman yes!, however when it comes to children, Minors...
I believe i need to set aside my business cap for just one moment.
Whilst I of course want to secure business,
in these contentious cases i would be dealing with young impressionable minds and it’s extremely important to remember that.
many parents also make the decisions to wax their children, but this doesn't always mean they are right in doing so.
My rule of thumb for children is when it comes to waxing that if I am standing two feet away and cannot see any hair, then in my opinion there is no hair that needs to be removed.
Obviously Hollywood and Brazilian waxing is a definite NOOOO!!
Ultimately it all comes down to using your common sense.
It is my right to say NO!!
if i don’t feel comfortable removing the hair,
"Knowing there is a legal obligation for me to follow the rules"
then of course i will say NO to all the above.
i will say no if I feel the child is to young,
or if the child is pre-pubescent or there is no guardian approval involved.
There would have to be very good reason for me to offer treatment to under 16 yr olds.
